Each charger on the yard has its own ID and a fixed location on the map, so the operator selects the correct one and sends the command.
The vehicle receives the instruction and starts moving towards the charger. It follows the route across the yard Along the way, it continuously monitors its surroundings and adjusts its speed when needed.
As the AV approaches the charger, it slows down and carefully aligns itself. It stops exactly at the correct position with high precision, so it can connect properly. This accurate positioning avoids unnecessary movements and ensures a smooth charging process.
Once the vehicle is in place, the charging process starts. The system connects automatically, for example by activating the pantograph.
While charging, everything is monitored. If something unexpected happens such as an interruption or failure the system reports it immediately
When the battery reaches the required level, the vehicle stops charging and disconnects itself. The operator is notified that the vehicle is ready for the next step.
The AV does not remain at the charger to avoid blocking it. Instead, the yard manager can send it to another location.
